this weekend was great. we had alot of fun! although it was snowy, we didn't let it ruin our time!

i just wanted to share one of my favorite brunch places in philadelphia; green eggs cafe. i had the vegan banana pancakes! they were so good ryan helped me finish them all gone.

also we headed over to a good friend, ryan beck's, artist studio. i love his abstract paintings. i feel like they are perfect for open spaces and my livingroom:)

so i'm back from styling free people's look book in palm springs and their catalog at joshua tree, but there's one thing i always miss when i leave california... the full and lush succulents and beautiful pottery. here are some of the beautiful combinations i spotted during our shoot outside of the mojave sands hotel in joshua tree.

i just got back from styling free people's april 2012 catalog and wanted to share some of the behind the scene photos with you! we shot with up and coming photographer, thomas northcut, and headed to the desert of joshua tree. i loved working with all of the models on this shoot. it was an amazing one week experience.

here's what i brought... lots of layers, floral sunglasses, comfy docs for running around, and a book to read during the plane rides.

we stayed in palm springs and then headed to the desert every morning

happy new year!

i know it's a little late, but this is really the first chance i had to post. i wanted to start the new year off right, so i decided to make a big brunch feast for new year's day. one of this year's resolutions is to cook and bake more. i have done so in the past, but have gotten pretty lazy about sparking up the stove. anyway, i just wanted to show you the spread... mini quiches, bacon (veggie and pork), french toast, fresh fruit, crescent rolls and coffee and mimosas to sip. it was perfect!

it's new year's eve. the last day of 2011. this day is always filled with reflection for me. what have i accomplished, what have i began, and what could i have done better in the past year. i think i did an ok job of keeping last year's resolutions. i guess i completed a little more than half. i definitely got a little more healthy by drinking more water and getting 8 hours of sleep a night. i also took a nice vacation/roadtrip this past summer. the others... not so much. but, i really did have a good year. i'm dedicated to making the next even better. i can't wait to see what it has in store. hope you all have an amazing night and a beautiful 2012!

new york at christmastime is magical

my mom and i spent a day in new york and devoted it to christmas. the city is even more magical this time of year! first we saw the rockettes at radio city music hall. i haven't seen the christmas show in years and it brought back so many wonderful memories. after the show we walked to rockefeller center to see the most beautiful christmas tree. i loved walking around the city. the stores are lit up like presents, the windows are beautifully over the top and everyone is extra nice. there's a peacefulness in the air. Before we went home we had dinner at Rolf's German Restaurant. We wanted to see their explosion of decorations and eat a hearty meal before taking the train home. the day was amazing! i hope you get to experience christmas in new york too:)

i picked up the most scrumptious pink peonies this week for a shoot i did with free people. lucky us we got to divide all the flowers at the end of the shoot and take some home. peonies are my absolute favorite bloom.

also, i wanted to share this amazing smores recipe i found while browsing all my favorite blogs. the result is a warm, chocolaty, gooey marshmallow confection. you must try it!

our first christmas

this is our first christmas together in our new home and ryan has been doing everything to make it special. we picked our tree from a lot by our apartment, sang to christmas carols, and decorated the tree with a mix of vintage ornaments and miniature planes ryan has been collecting. i think our first tree came out pretty great.

i haven't been to brooklyn in a while and i missed it so much. the flea markets, cafes, vintage shopping, and people watching are so captivating.
our main goal today was to hit the brooklyn flea market in williamsburg.we walked away with a few things... a vintage navajo blanket in muted colors, an old bottle opener, a vintage bag, and some snacks from some of the many yummy food vendors.

i think the strangest thing was walking away with a bag that i already had except a lot more worn. the vendor thought i was crazy when i asked to trade, but i finally got my perfectly worn in, brown leather coach bag and i love it!

after the flea market we met my friend, leigh, for a late lunch at rabbit hole cafe and some more shopping at some other local vintage spots.

we had such a great time. i need to visit a lot more.

this past weekend my friend threw a joint birthday party for me and two other scorpios. it was a day of the dead themed birthday party filled with sugar skulls, home made margaritas, catered tacos, mexican chocolate cupcakes, great music, and a pinata!! the night was perfect and beautiful.

some of the places we visited in l.a. were beautiful, some of them inspiring, and some of them famous!

we hiked griffith park to get as close to the hollywood sign as possible.

everywhere you go you will find a beautiful mural decorating the buildings.

we stopped by pink's hotdogs on la brea.

the tall palm trees seemed like they could go on for ever.

venice beach was fun for watching people, buying sunglasses, and hanging out while taking it all in.

we visited the lacma for its lights. next time i want to go back at night.

the griffith observatory was perfect for overlooking the sparkling city. the best time to go is sunset.

lastly, olvera street has the best mexican finds. i was so inspired i took many photos of their wares.

here are some of my favorite places to eat in l.a.

mel's diner for milkshakes...

any of the farmer's markets for dragon fruit...

casbah cafe for some of the best figs i ever tasted...

and of course pinkberry...

one of the best places we ate in l.a. was jone's bar in west hollywood. it's a local place with a great menu and yummy food. the vibe is quaint and the decor is cozy. it's hidden and not over crowded with tourists. try it!

california has some of the best flea markets. you can imagine how happy i was to land in the sunshine state and head right to the fairfax flea market. i took some photos of all the good and plenty vintage...

apple crisp night

last saturday night we made apple crisp and watched movies. it was the perfect way to beet the chill in the air and sniffle in our noses.

just add ice cream! oh and this apple crisp was half homemade. we bought the box of ingredients and just cut some apples. perfect for people like me who don't know their way around the kitchen:)

and we have been having fun decorating. i love all the rich colors and crisp, cool air. i love all the layering that comes with fall too. i have decided now that i live in the city, where we can walk to pretty much everything, i want to focus on clothes that make me warm and cozy. now if i could only find the perfect parka.

so we ended the december catalog shoot with a traditional greek toga party. i think getting ready was actually more fun than the actual party.

we were lucky enough to have the make up artist, deana hagen, and hair stylist, patrice delaroche, help get us all dolled up!

december catalog behind the scenes

after a day of travel and a day of scouting we fell sound asleep in the black night. when morning came we woke to the most beautiful view from atop our villa in pyrgos, the highest point of santorini.

villa views...

meals were prepared daily by our personal chef who made the most savory greek food.

this is what my room looked like. clothes were piled and hung below while i slept on the loft space above.

scenes from the two days we spent shooting... mona johannesson, who is super sweet, modeled our clothes and enric galceran shot the catalog.

free people in greece

we just wrapped up our december catalog shoot on the santorini island of greece. the white architecture and blue water had us believing the place was magic. we first arrived in athens and took a quick road trip to the stadiums and the ancient acropolis. when we are shooting sometimes a few hours is all we have to experience a new city or town.

later that night we flew into santorini and the next morning woke up to this...

greece has some of the most amazing food i have ever had. these were some of the prettiest dishes we got to indulge in.

the shops in santorini were even beautiful. here are a few of their wares for sale around the island.

greece was a wonderful place to experience. i think you will love our december catalog when it finally drops. santorini turned out to be a beautiful back drop to showcase our clothes! behind the scenes of our shoot will be up tomorrow!

road trip: chattanooga

i heard chattanooga was amazing to site see and it really was one of the most beautiful places i have ever been. we walked through rock city which was a fun maze of rocks and hidden gnomes. there is one spot where you can see seven states at one time... gah!

after that we went to ruby falls which is a 150 foot waterfall hidden in an underground cavern.

i can't believe we are back in philadelphia now. the whole tripped seemed surreal since we managed to see so much in so little. i loved every part of tennessee. i can't wait to explore more of our beautiful country. so... thanks for reading my little journal/blog and hope you go visit these places if you haven't already. x

road trip: dollywood

we went to dollywood!!! ahhhh... i still can't believe it. dollywood is a big amusement park with country sing-a-longs and the most amazing collection of dolly's belongings right there inside her museum.

the only shot a got inside the museum... her collection of clothes circa 1980 something.

along with country barbecue they had pickle on a stick which i couldn't resist...

... and the most amazing warm and gooey cinnamon bread i have ever tasted!!!

in a nutshell the museum was amazing. i gawked at clothes she wore on stage and in most of her movies. the rides were fun. i became addicted to their newest ride and made ryan go on it with me 5 times! we had a great time!

road trip: memphis

we drove into memphis as the sun was setting and arrived at heart break hotel.

then off to beale street for dinner and some blues music.

the next day we got up early and headed to graceland. i can't tell you how long i have wanted to go and visit elvis' home and legacy. although more sad then i thought it would be, the place is magical.

before we left memphis we stopped in for a tour of sun studios where some of the greatest music began.

road trip: nashville

we got to nashville at night and checked out the music shops in nash vegas. bluegrass music was everywhere.

then dinner at merchant's for fried green tomatoes! i definitely want to try to make these now that i'm back home.

we had a blast in the town and robert's western world was definitely our favorite. in between bands we had moon pie for dessert.

the next day we went museum crazy... warhol was at the frist and was one of the most amazing exhibits i have ever seen.

shopping in between at hatch show prints where music posters are made.

we ended the day at the grand ole opry.

sorry for all the cheesy shots outside. taking photos inside most of the places we visited was a no no! i absolutely loved nashville.

first stop: louisville

our little road trip was amazing. i have seen so many wonderful things that make america the unique country it is and feel so inspired by it's history. our first stop along our tennessee trail was louisville, kentucky.

we arrived just as the sun was setting and just in time for some good barbecue.

the next day we got up early and headed to their skate park which is one of the best for it's full pipe... ryan didn't miss that chance to skate it.
on the way out we stopped by thomas edison's house. i was a little sad we couldn't go in, since it was a sunday. it was pretty amazing to be that close to history none the less.

on to the jim beam distillery tour. i picked up a box of chocolate covered bourbon cherries that were so yummy!

we had a great time on our first full day. ok, now on to tennessee!

saturday was a day of laying out with the dogs and grilling at my mom's. dugan had a little ear surgery, so he was not a happy pup last weekend:(

sunday began with brunch at kraftwork

and furniture shopping for the apartment. this 1960's vanity is so amazing and would be a dream to have all to myself.

then we headed to the piazza for a block party. this is my only pic from the party, but it was a lot of fun.

finally, sunflowers made it to our step monday morning. they made it a little more cheery!

brunch is one of my favorite meals. now that i'm living in northern liberties we have our pick of many brunch spots just a few blocks away. a quick walk through the neighbohood and my friend and i ended up at north third.

october catalog shoot: nyc

we were in and out of new york in no time to shoot in studio for our october catalog. we arrived the night before for dinner and some shopping. we shot at splashlight studios for the next 2 days. it was an amazing collaboration that i am so excited to show you once the catalog finally drops! expect rich colors and luxe textures for fall!

my sweetest baby turned 8 today! it seemes like yesterday when we picked him up from his colorado breeder and took him home. he has been such a joy in my life and he taught me the beauty of a dog's unconditional love. i don't mean to get sappy, but i love him so much.

the day started with birthday treats and ended at tyler state park for a long swim!

he was too tired on the car ride home to stick his head out the window... Zzzzz!

summer recipe guacamole!

a friend made amazing guacamole this weekend he got from foodnetwork.com. you must try it. this guacamole should be at every summer party!

ingredients:

3 haas avocados, halved seeded and peeled

1 lime, juiced
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp cayenne
1/2 medium onion, diced
2 roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
1/2 tsp chopped cilantro
1 clove garlic, minced

smash and fold together... yum!

she sells sea shells

today i am wearing a necklace i made from sea shells collected from florida when i visited my grandmom as a little girl and the larger white one was given to me. ryan took the shells to work and drilled some tiny holes into them. i found some neon string and tied them together. i think it's perfect for summer days.

homey little things

i have had moving into a new apartment on my mind lately. see, after two years of having my little vintage store i realized that i had to move back home with my mom again. now that i have had time to get back on my feet i am ready for a new beginning in a new place. i move into my new apartment in july and have been finding lots of things to fill it up!

i love the little japanese store, morihata, in philadelphia.

and city planter in northern liberties. i think i may have finally completed my terrarium.

ruby aldridge in our studio today

ruby was in our web studio today. we had fun styling her for web, because you can't take your eyes off of her magnetic personality. she listens to metal and has her i pod plugged in where ever she goes. ruby's the girl everyone wants to be friends with.

i spied her necklace of charms... some she made and others were given to her.

you inspire me, spring

here are a few things that caught my eye this week and have me wanting more.

i'm always a sucker for turquoise in the warm months. i just picked up the ring on the left at a local motorcycle shop. i can't get enough.

my view at the navy yard... i love watching the ships pass by. there are times i have to remind myself we are still in philadelphia.

the weekend ended with ice cream in the setting sun. it felt like the perfect week to kick off an amazing summer.

tied up and tousled

it's been a nice week... i have been getting so many nice surprises in the mail lately. the gals from tied up and tousled sent me a really nice package too! they make headbands and necklaces inspired by native american dress. the first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful art work on the back of their business cards.

they sent me this beautiful braided headband that double wraps and...

this amazing leather headband adorned with vintage trinkets.

a fragrant offering

i was so happy today when i got a package sent to me from amber of AB'OVO ORIGINALS TRADING POST! amber makes perfumes of lavender and indian sandalwood just to name a few. i really became enamored with amber's concoctions after reading about her on etsy... i appreciate her love of the earth and the love she places into every scent.

brooklyn: part 2

we got up late the next morning and had brunch at baci & abbraci. you will love everything if you have a chance to go. i had the margherita pizza with a sunny side up egg in the middle (what???) ... dunking the crispy crust in the egg was heaven!!

we all shared nutella bites for dessert.

after we made a quick stop for the brooklyn museum, because you always have to stop in. the back exhibit was about a new york man's quest to try every pizza in new york. yes, more pizza!

off to one of my favorite places for vintage textiles, stella dallas, where i scooped up this colorful navajo rug. i think i have the perfect place for it, but then again you never know.

i had a great time celebrating my friend's birthday and seeing as much of brooklyn as i could get in. it was an amazing weekend.

new york: part one

i spent the weekend in new york celebrating my friend, leigh's, birthday. we went to 1or8 for blood orange mojitos, sushi, and lava cake with homemade strawberry sorbet. we had a great girl's weekend:)

trip to terrain

we headed to terrain today, because i have been dying for my very own terrarium. they were all amazing and the possibilities are endless as you can tell by their entire terrarium display.

here's the glass bowl i chose. this is what the terrarium looked like while i was placing it all together.

i ended up buying lots of succulents, the white crackle pot, and was able to fill some pots i've had including the printed pot i purchased at anthro not too long ago!

all ready for my new apartment! move in date is july 1st!

free people july catalog: behind the scenes

we just wrapped up shooting our july catalog in austin, texas. truth be told, austin is one of my new favorite cities! we had an amazing experience and a lot of fun on this shoot...

first things first, we arrived at the beautiful historic house we all shared and got settled in.

the first day of shooting can be a bit hectic and really exciting at the same time. i began getting the clothes ready in our big dressing room. hair and make up got started while others help get the sets ready.

finally shooting begins with photographer alexandra valenti and fp videographer carrie yotter.

the day is long. models take snack breaks on clementines.

days two and three are shot at alexandra's favorite austin spots where she shoots vintage sellers, sisters of the black moon.

on our shoots we are lucky enough to get occasional hair cuts by the hair stylists we take along. amazing, new york based stylist, dennis, works his magic on my crazy hair.

when shooting is finished we stop for tex mex and can't help but notice all of the music lyrics and posters austin has lingering throughout.

what an amazing city!

back from austin

i spent the week in austin, texas styling free people's july catalog. before i show you some behind the scenes i wanted to share my most favorite parts of sweet austin, texas...

number 1 is their plentiful vintage shopping!! i did some of my best vintage shopping there from feathers vintage to the little festival truck that was filled with the best, most inexpensive vintage of all. we went crazy dressing and undressing in that little truck, but the experience was most fun!

i forget where this was taken, but look at all those boots!

lucky us the sisters of the black moon took us shopping. these gals have the best style and are so, so sweet. rachel let me take tons of photos. i love her patch work jeans and all of those beautiful rings.

here are some of my austin finds... an embroidered mexican dress, wool navajo short sleeve cardigan, harley tee, velvet and fringe scarf, coral beaded necklace, indian bangles, levi's denim shorts, and black and white crochet shorts.

that's all for now. more favorites to come, but this couldn't wait. we went gaga over these girls and all the vintage we found!

rainy today, sunny tomorrow

i wont be posting for a week or so. tomorrow we will be in austin shooting free people's july catalog! back in january we headed to nyc for this model casting and fell in love with ashley smith... who wouldn't? i'm happy to say i will be styling ashley and 2 other amazing models on this shoot! i will post photos when i return.

last night of magic

it was like the last supper at fathom last night. i had a salad while everyone else feasted on fish tacos, crab cake sandwiches, lobster grilled cheese, french fries, oysters, and bacon perogies. i didn't want to indulge too much, because i start my juice cleanse today. that means no more food or vodka sodas for 4 days... it's fresh and healthy juice and water with lemon for me!

i'm hoping to flush my system of all the toxins our body stores and feel better all the way around. i will let you know how it goes once i finish my cleanse. wish me luck!
