this is ruby showing off. she really wanted to be part of this post.

today the store is by appointment only due to the lack of street parking in philadelphia. the parade goers took all the parking spots... including mine!!! i can be at the store in 15 minutes if you'd like to come in today.

birthday

yesterday was my birthday. the day couldn't have been better. it started with friends stopping by the store to bring cards, cupcakes, and brownies. then off to dinner at my favorite restaurant, blue sage. i got the best gifts including flowers, candy corn, and a sewing machine!! we sipped champagne, shared dessert, and watched the phillies win the world series back at home. it was the perfect day.

i feel so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life. thank you all for making my birthday so special. xo

obsessions

i bought these amazing feather earrings from a local clothing boutique, grasshopper. they come in many beautiful colors, but i fell in love with this combination. i later found out they were pheasant feathers... i'm going to hell.

just to give you an idea of how long they are i took a picture of myself wearing them. please excuse the fact that i took it in the bathroom.

they cost $75., but i have been using the excuse "it's my birthday and i deserve them" for about a month now. it started with my leather, fringe bag and hasn't ended yet. the excuses won't end until every last item is crossed off my list. i still have a fitting room rug, vogue uk subscription, sewing machine and living room curtains to go. so, happy birthday to me!

15 minutes of homemade

not really. i'm cheating, but they taste just like homemade and in only 15 minutes!! whole foods sells my favorite brand, better bakes. better bakes are the cookies with a cause... a portion of the proceeds support kids through the arts. see, you CAN gain weight and feel good about it.

i think i eat more of the actual cookie dough than baked cookies... like you don't.

spread them out and bake for 10 minutes.

they didn't last long.

hair and make up, please

the runways for spring '09 had some looks for hair and make up i couldn't resist showing miss elouise readers. the trends i saw over and over were black lined eyes and muted, rose pink lips. some artists played with color. most of the hair was pulled up and tight. my favorite hair was left free and flowing.

this is the beginning stage of hair for christian dior models. the result was bun-like up do which sat high off their heads. the make up was perfection.

christian dior

tuleh showed the prettiest ringlets. they seemed to achieve the look by setting the hair in this sort of pin curl effect.

this is lovely rag and bone.

matthew williamson, above, added more to the eyes creating a smokey, sultry look.

marc jacobs featured a soft look and muted the eyebrows while marni, not shown, exaggerated the brows with liner.

fendi pulled up the hair and left the ends natural and teased out for an unkempt look.

erin fetherston displayed sleek ponytails.

zac posen's models stood out with metallic purple lips. i like it with their understated eyes.

so close yet so far

while browsing some of my favorite designer's spring '09 collections, the only way someone like me can... online, i came across a few that made my heart do that thing where it skips a beat or two. i noticed a few themes in the spring collections. metallics, ombra, bows, a-symmetry, shorts, beads, pastels, and lots of one pieces will be everywhere come april. overall, the collections were quite yummy and makes me want 70 degree weather to work its way back to philadelphia.

luella worked pops of color and ruffles together. this dress looks like icing and is my favorite thus far.

stella mccartney's collection is always fun, classy and detailed beautifully.

house of holland had a whimsical collection of prints and played with shape.

dries van noten wasn't as impressive as the others, but i did love this beaded and sequined dress.

cynthia steffe had these sheer knee highs with black piping that stood out for me.

chloe worked pretty pastels, feminine scalloped edging and lace details.

celine gave me one of those heart fluttering moments. the dress, hair, make up, belt, shoes, and jacket... it's gorgeous together.

anna sui stayed true to her designs with bold patterns.

3.1 phillip lim had the best shoes in all of the collections. sheer confection.

flea market finds

october was the last month of flea markets in philadelphia for '08, so you better believe i hit up every one of them. here are a few of my favorite finds.

every girl needs this summer staple... an 80's embroidered shirt. this one fits me perfectly.

ok, so here is a peek of the skirt i will be trying to get the fall '08 gucci ad campaign look with!

this is an amazing belt!! it's made of black fabric and accented with gold. the clasp is in the back.

i found this rhinestone necklace i wear with everything. it looks great with a basic gray t-shirt. oh and the gloves will be the perfect accessory with spring dresses.

i am in love with this feather headband. i bought it for photo shoots and just because it was calling my name. i probably won't wear it, but i should!

get it together

i get a lot of inspiration through other vintage sellers. the main reason is because i love the way they put it all together for their prospective buyers. here are a few that i especially liked.

meat market: a sheer lace dress lays on top of a black slip making it wearable.

lullie: a shortened hemline and winter accessories make this summer dress perfect for fall.

spanish moss: pretty tights make this dress more modern.

maki maki: black accessories give this girlie jumper an edgy look.

mama stone: this 60's coat looks modern and vibrant with a monochromatic leg.

noir ohio: rolling or hemming a jumpers legs and adding a belt ensures a perfect fit.

next time you are vintage shopping think about what you can do to make it work for you.
